Periodically some madman attacks some of our
citizens with a gun and for the next few weeks we are treated
to nonstop hand wringing by the media and their friends in the
gun control lobby. The recent tragedy in Virginia has resulted
in the same predictable “news” stories, heavily slanted
in favor of gun control. Lest you think slanting the news beneath
the keepers of our journalistic flame, let me point you to a CBS
NEWS story about a previous Virginia school shooting.
In 2002 a 43 year old law student at the Appalachian
School of Law was unhappy with his failing grades and decided
to make himself feel better by killing some folks at the school.
He killed the Dean, and his contracts professor, and a female
student. He also wounded three others. The reason he did not kill
more people is because he was subdued by three law students. Pretty
brave law students, eh? How did they do that with out getting
killed? CBS reported that they tackled the shooter. What CBS did
not report was that the three approached him from three different
directions, and that two of them were armed. When he saw two widely
spaced targets with guns pointed at him, he threw down his gun.
CBS did not think that was an important part of the story; or
maybe it just didn’t advance their agenda?
